One tool, one job

Dropdetector is a browser extension for shoppers. You are looking at a product in an online shop. You press the button. It goes and looks for the same item on the large Chinese marketplaces and shows you what it finds.

That is the whole product. There is no dashboard, no account, no newsletter and nothing running in the background while you browse.

Where it stands

Dropdetector is in its testing stage and almost finished. The price match works and is being tested on real online shops right now, and during testing every match it finds is checked by a person. It only shows a listing when it is confident the item is the same and the price is lower than the shop's.

It is not available to install yet. It goes on the Chrome Web Store once testing is done.

It does not label the shop, and it does not tell you where the goods came from. It shows you the same item somewhere else, at a lower price, and nothing more.

What it costs

Dropdetector is free to use. It is supported by affiliate commission: if you buy through a link it shows you, we may earn a commission from that marketplace at no extra cost to you. That is the only way the tool earns anything.

Privacy and limited use of data

The extension is request scoped. It reads the one product page you invoke it on, and invoked means you clicked its button on that page. There is no background collection, no page load beacon and no browsing history.

Sent to our server

  • the shop's origin, meaning https://host on its own
  • which item you asked about, as a product path or id

Never sent

  • the full URL including query and tracking parameters
  • the page title or any page text
  • the referring page
  • any user, account or install identifier
  • cookies, site storage or credentials
  • any page you did not invoke it on

Data received is used only to perform the lookup you asked for. We do not sell it, we do not transfer it to anyone for advertising or creditworthiness, and we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to that lookup. We do not build a profile of you, because we do not receive anything that would let us.
